Twenty students, ten from Peking University and ten from University of Sydney, joined the combined field course in China and Australia, in 2013. Both field excursions focused on field examples of rocks that develop in various tectonic settings.

For the first field excursion in China, 21-31 July, all students went to North Qilian for ocean suture zone of metamorphism, magmatism and orogenic process led by Prof. Shuguang Song and Dr. Guibin Zhang.

The second field excursion moved to New England Orogen between Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, led by Profs. Jonathan Aitchison and Geoffrey Clark, 21-31 August. Strands of the Peel Fault System across which various Paleozoic lithotectonic units are well exposed in a tectonic collage comprising various terranes.

Finally, all students gave a presentation on each field excursion. Through this combined excursion, numerous benefits for all staff and students involved both academically and socially.
